Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Golden State Warriors have had an up-and-down summer after starting with plenty of hype surrounding their pursuit of LeBron James. Golden State is trying to get back to the championship level it reached during the peak of its dynasty. The Warriors wanted James badly enough that Stephen Curry met with him in June. “Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors are going to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it's kind of questionable. Now there's going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency," NBA insider Brett Siegel said. James ultimately decided to join the Philadelphia 76ers. The offseason has been so disappointing for the Warriors that ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins even suggested Curry should consider finding a way out of Golden State. “Steph needs to be planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors," said Perkins on 'NBA Today'. "Think about it, over the last four years, the Warriors have been in the play-in tournament. And this year, the way that the West is stacked up, they're gonna be a play-in tournament team again. You can't waste any more time hoping and banking that Mike Dunleavy is gonna get it right or is gonna make the moves that are needed to make sure that you can compete for a title, especially in a tough Western Conference. Even though Golden State’s summer has been lackluster, a recent report could have Warriors fans very excited. The organization reportedly has interest in bringing Klay Thompson back if he reaches the buyout market. “As far as a potential return to the Warriors goes, team sources say Thompson would be welcomed back to the organization with open arms if he were to secure a buyout and become a free agent. Down the line, it's possible Klay will reunite with Steph Curry and Draymond Green to ride off into the sunset and retire with the franchise he won four championships with,” Siegel wrote. If Golden State can bring Thompson back, it would salvage the offseason from a nostalgia standpoint. The four-time NBA champion could eventually finish his career where it all began after spending his entire career with the Warriors before joining the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson has made $298 million throughout his career. With Green, Curry and Thompson all reaching the latter stages of their careers, a reunion could give the Warriors’ legendary core one final opportunity to play together. This is the ending that not only Warriors fans would love to see, but the NBA world as a whole. Curry, Thompson and Green could get the proper sendoff they deserve if a reunion eventually comes to fruition. More NBA news:
