As the Washington Huskies approach the halfway point of training camp, a majority of Jedd Fisch's starting offense is set in stone. However, a starting opportunity at the wide receiver position has created an intriguing storyline through the early days of fall camp. With 2025 Dezmen Roebuck and senior Rashid Williams projected to fill two of the starting jobs, the battle for the X spot ramped up during Thursday morning's practice. Between Kennesaw State transfer Christian Moss and sophomore Chris Lawson, a plethora of big plays were made during the 11-on-11 periods of the workout.

Lawson, on the other hand, was able to showcase his crisp route-running with a pair of receptions of over 20 yards. The former four-star recruit also showed off his speed by taking a jet sweep for over 30 yards and putting the first team offense inside the 5-yard line during a scrimmage period. Although both wideouts appear to be vying for the same spot, there is a noticeable difference in their skill sets. Moss, listed at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, poses as a deep threat and a major issue for smaller cornerbacks in jump ball situations. As for the 6-foot, 185-pound Lawson, he's displayed speed that can take the top off defenses and the feel for coverages needed to make plays in the middle of the field. With just 24 days until the Huskies kick off the season against Washington State, position coach Kevin Cummings' room continues to be one of the more intriguing groups of fall camp. Highly touted freshmen Jordan Clay and Trez Davis have also made their presence felt during camp and are expected to have a role in Fisch's offense this fall, adding both promising talent and depth to the group.
