The Washington Huskies men's basketball team returned six players from last season's squad that finished 16-17 overall. This left the Huskies with nine spots on the roster to fill, which it did via a trio of international signings: forward Wini Braga (Brazil), forward Boris Tisma (Croatia) and guard Tristan Devers (Australia); transfer portal additions: guard Harun Zrno (Rutgers), guard Ryan Beasley (San Francisco), forward LeJuan Watts (Texas Tech), forward Steele Venters (Gonzaga), guard Parker Friedrichsen (Davidson) and Class of 2026 commit, small forward Lattimore Ford. Even with Washington's roster at full capacity, that hasn't prevented the team from looking at other players currently available. According to a post on "X" from 247Sports recruiting analyst Dushawn London, 2025-26 Sun Belt Player of the Year and former South Alabama guard Chaze Harris has hear from the Huskies, Seton Hall and Southern Methodist (SMU). Harris graduated and ran out of eligibility last season, but entered the transfer portal and was granted a fifth year of eligibility after receiving an injunction in court against the NCAA. Harris averaged 19.2 points on 53.6% shooting across 33 games (all starts) last season. He also averaged 4.9 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest.

Chaze Harris - An interesting name starting to circulate amongst possible eligibility cases, is the reigning Sun Belt POY Chaze Harris, who spent 3 non Division 1 years prior to joining the Jaguars this past season. Portsmouth… pic.twitter.com/AJrj4AatdZ — Caden Hoffman (@coachcadenhoff) May 19, 2026 Even if Washington was legitimately interested in Harris, there's several obstacles that could get in the way of them potentially pursuing him. No spots on the roster... The first hurdle for the Huskies to potentially land Harris is a simple one: there's no room. NCAA Division I teams are limited to just 15 players, including walk-ons. This is a hard-cap and players are unable to add to the roster in cases of injuries or medical redshirts once the season begins. Last year, Washington was able to land a 16th player, forward Nikola Dzepina, during the winter quarter. However, that addition was permitted due to injuries that took place before the season began, such as forward Mady Traore. However, those exemptions usually come with the granting of a medical redshirts or waivers, which have since been eliminated by the NCAA. If a player leaves the program before enrolling in the university, there could be an open roster spot on the team, which would allow UW to pursue Harris. Currently, all the players currently reported to have joined the program are on-campus, but an official roster is not yet available on the team's website. This could mean that there could still be some moving parts that has stopped head coach Danny Sprinkle from making the roster official. However, there could be another wrinkle in NCAA eligibility requirements that would allow the Huskies to pursue Harris. International players eligibility Before the season began, the NCAA issued a new guidance that prohibited players, regardless of sport, from maintaining their college eligibility if they received compensation above "necessary expenses" from professional leagues, including international ones. Braga (Novo Basquete Brasil), Devers (National Basketball League) and Tisma (EuroBasket) have all played professionally, which could affect their respective eligibility. Per an update from a UW spokesperson back in May, the team was still "working through" the eligibility status of the international players. At the time, Braga and Devers were committed but Tisma wasn't. If the NCAA does crack down on enforcing its guidance and one of those aforementioned players are ruled ineligible, the team might be looking for extra players regardless, which would allow the team to pursue Harris.
