Mitchell Santner, the left-arm spinning all-rounder, has joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad for the ongoing season of the the Indian Premier League (IPL). His inclusion provides a much-needed boost to an already strong Mumbai Indians squad, which kick-started its IPL 2026 campaign with a six-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

Santner is expected to be available for Mumbai Indians' next game, an afternoon clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 4.

Considered one of the best all-rounders in world cricket currently, Santner picked two wickets at an economy of 6.60 and scored 120 runs at a strike rate of 142.85 in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup, leading New Zealand to the final.

Santner, along with fellow teammate Will Jacks, had sought a brief break from the tournament due to personal commitments, requesting additional time to be with family following a busy international schedule, which included the 2026 T20 World Cup. As a result, the left-arm spinning all-rounder was unavailable for Mumbai Indians’ opening fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Notably, Santner was acquired by MI for INR 2 crore at the auction and remains an integral part of their setup. He also brings familiarity to the squad, having previously represented the franchise during the 2025 season, and his economical and accurate bowling could be effective for the team.

Santner has featured in 31 IPL matches, contributing as a lower-order batter with 110 runs at an average of 13.75 and a strike rate of around 105. With the ball, he has been more impactful, picking up 25 wickets at an average of 29.40 and an economy rate of 7.31 and the best figures of 3 for 11.
