A string of personal digs between two members of discussion panel drew widespread attention on August 17, 2026, when the tea break of Day 3 of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka at Galle International Cricket Stadium turned into an unexpectedly sharp on-air confrontation.

Murali Kartik opened the exchange with a dig at Sanjay Manjrekar's on-screen expressions.

"A gentle request and a big request from one and all here: you have the pout of the century, but because of your pout, we are not able to understand what you say. So, please limit that pout," Kartik said on Sony Sports Network.

THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY! 😂

Shots were fired, comebacks followed, and our Extraaa Innings panel had an absolute laugh! 😅

The full sequence of on-air barbs

Manjrekar responded by calling for a camera switch and introducing the phrase that would define the clip.

"That's a bad one. Can we cut... can we make this a split screen and shift the camera to the other guy because he is a much more pleasant person to talk to, and he has got a much more pleasant face as well," Manjrekar said.

The back-and-forth continued when Manjrekar turned his attention to Kartik's commentary style.

"I just wonder, 'superb, superb, superb,' Murali Kartik's voice, looking at himself in the mirror," Manjrekar added. Kartik fired back immediately, /I don't look at myself in the mirror. That's you. That's only you'.

Match situation at Galle when the exchange took place

Manjrekar then sharpened the mirror reference. The exchange ended with Manjrekar appearing to acknowledge how far things had gone

"There is an incentive to look in the mirror. For you, I can understand it's not very motivating. Anyway, we're both going to cross lines here, and social media will have a field day," said Manjrekar.

The spat unfolded during a significant phase of the match. The first Test at Galle began on August 15, 2026. India had posted 462 in their first innings, with Devdutt Padikkal contributing 167 runs. At tea on Day 3, Sri Lanka had reached 214/5, with Niroshan Dickwella unbeaten on 72 and Sonal Dinusha unbeaten on 62, the pair putting together a notable partnership.

Kartik is a former slow left-arm orthodox bowler who represented India sporadically between 2000 and 2007, his opportunities limited by the presence of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. Manjrekar is a former middle-order batter who has been a regular presence in Indian cricket broadcasting for several years.
