Celtic Park is currently experiencing a revolving door of incomings, as barely 24 hours after the announcement of Hassiem Hassan, today the club announced the long awaited signing of German under 21 international Mika Baur for a deal that could be worth up to £8 million for Bundesliga side Paderborn.

Celtic officially confirmed the signing and welcomed Mika Baur to the club this afternoon stating:

“We are delighted to welcome Mika Baur to the club, with the German midfielder joining from Paderborn on a four-year deal with the option of another year, subject to international clearance.”

Mika will wear the No22 jersey for the Hoops, as you can see below…

At one stage the deal looked in doubt due to Celtic and Paderborn failing to come to an agreement on a fee, but the player’s willingness to move to Glasgow, forced the German side into re-think, and a deal was quickly thrashed out over the past few days, allowing him to become the club’s fourth summer signing.

The 22 year old midfielder is highly regarded in the German game, with Celtic having to fend off competition from several Bundesliga sides and wider interest to secure Mika’s signature.

Baur is described as an all round midfielder, who posses great technically ability, and is renowned for his boundless energy in the middle of the park. Traits that will prove to be useful qualities, particularly with Arne Engels, and Reo Hatate poised to leave in the coming weeks.

He could now in line to make his debut in the Premier Sports cup clash with Dundee United at Tannadice on Saturday evening, and of course like fellow new signing Hassiem Hassan, Baur will be eligible for the upcoming Champions League playoff ties with Austrian champions LASK.

Celtic of course have a transfer strategy of buying potential, and making a profit further down the line and Mika Baur ticks all those boxes.

Our midfield now has a new injection of energy, and something of an unknown quantity, which will be to of our benefit, considering our midfield has become rather predictable these past couple of years.

Mika’s arrival could result in a move for Reo Hatate getting the green light, but then again Martin O’Neill might decide to wait until after the Champions League playoff is settled before sanctioning that or any other outgoing transfer.

Welcome to Celtic Miko Baur, I’m sure your stay will be a successful one.
