Manchester United are preparing to facilitate the departure of Harry Amass before the window closes next month.

According to Samuel Luckhurst and Katherine Walsh, ‘well-placed sources’ believe a permanent sale is the most likely outcome for the 19-year-old.

Where might Amass end up ahead of 2026/2027?

Norwich City are interested in signing Amass again after he made the move to Carrow Road in the winter, before sustaining a lengthy injury layoff immediately after his club debut.

United would prefer to agree a fee that suits them. However, it’s thought they would settle for a season-long loan, provided a buy obligation is included in the terms.

Assuming a deal is agreed in the coming weeks, it would see Amass leave the Red Devils with seven first-team appearances to his name, five of which came in the Premier League.

Is it wise to sell Amass?

Yet, fans are perplexed by INEOS’ desire to part ways with the youngster, given how short Michael Carrick is on left-backs.

With Patrick Dorgu poised to enter 2026/2027 as a wing option, it leaves only Luke Shaw as the one out-and-out left-back in the squad, with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui likely to be shoehorned into the role if Shaw is unavailable.

The England international is on the back of a career first after starting every Premier League fixture last season, but it’s safe to say he has been United’s most injury-prone player of the last decade.

Relying almost solely on Shaw during a campaign that will see United come up against Europe’s elite in the Champions League seems ill-advised – unless INEOS are confident they can acquire backup in the position in the closing stages of the window.

Lewis Hall remains their first choice to bring in on the left flank, though Newcastle United’s reluctance to sell could force Jason Wilcox and Co to look elsewhere.
