West Ham United are underway in the Championship, after what could only be described as a shambolic season in the English top flight, narrowly missing out on survival on the final day of the campaign. With the team being relegated, they were slated to be picked apart, which more than happened, with the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes moving elsewhere for various fees.
Granted, the team didn't lose one of their important forward-thinking players in Jarrod Bowen, who made his intentions to stay at the London Stadium known fairly early on. But it's going to take more than the Englishman to help lift The Hammers back to the Premier League, which has seen the West Ham brass keep tabs on several players across the globe, including a former Premier League champion: Jamie Vardy.
The Hammers reach out to Vardy
As reported by TalkSPORT's Alex Conrad, West Ham contacted Vardy at some point to see if he'd be up for making his way to the London Stadium, but there isn't much more known at this point in time.
"West Ham is another contender, having made an inquiry for the 39-year-old prior to the Championship campaign getting underway," states Conrad.
If it were to happen, a move to West Ham would see Vardy return to the English football pyramid for the first time since his departure from Leicester City at the end of the 2024-25 season, having notched 13 goal involvements in the Premier League campaign before his move to Serie A side Cremonese.
At the end of the Serie A season, Vardy became a free agent, meaning that he'll be able to test the waters for a move elsewhere. It's worth noting that, according to Conrad, it's not only the Hammers interested in Vardy; Sheffield United and Sao Paulo are interested as well.
Vardy's next step will be something to watch in the coming weeks, amid other moves across the globe.
