Florida high school football returned this week with preseason action across the state. West Orange begins its 2026 campaign as a top-100 team in the Sunshine State and it scrimmaged Apopka on Friday evening.
The Warriors’ headline-grabber was senior wide receiver Yuto Kawamura-Johnson. The three-star prospect compiled more than 100 yards and scored three touchdowns against the Blue Darters. He returned a kickoff for six and had a nice leaping TD grab on a red zone fade.

The best highlight of the night, however, was a bulldozing 25-yard score. After making a catch in the flat, Kawamura-Johnson followed some blockers down the left sideline, then met an Apopka defender head-on, dragging him the last 10 yards into the end zone for a vicious score:

The Japanese pass-catcher made his way to the Sunshine State last season and was a key piece for West Orange. He hauled in 50 receptions and turned them into 766 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also rushed for three scores and added a few tackles on the defensive side. Kawamura-Johnson committed to Toledo on June 2.
The Warriors went 10-2 last season, losing to Venice in the Class 7A-Region 2 semifinal. They averaged over 39 points per game and finished as the No. 56 team in Florida, per the Rivals Composite Rankings. They return key pieces this fall, including Kawamura-Johnson and junior three-star quarterback Andrew Chung.
West Orange will begin the 2026 regular season on Thursday, Aug. 20. It welcomes Archbishop Hoban (Ohio) for a notable interstate clash. The Knights out of Akron enter the year as the No. 9 team in Ohio and are predicted to win next week’s game, per the Massey Ratings.
Other big games on West Orange’s schedule include road tests against Lake Mary, Edgewater and Jones, all three of which are preseason top-25 teams in Florida. The Warriors’ first away game isn’t until the trip to Lake Mary on Sept. 18.
