The anticipation is over. All that's left for Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry is the fighting at UFC 330. Their five-round UFC welterweight championship bout takes place Saturday, August 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia.
The fight is a first for both Makhachev (28-1 MMA, 17-1 UFC) and Machado Garry (17-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) – Makhachev's first defense of his 170-pound title after claiming it from Jack Della Maddalena last November and Machado Garry's first UFC title-fight appearance.
Makhachev, 34, a former UFC lightweight champion, will enter UFC 330 aiming for unprecedented territory. A victory would be his 17th in a row inside the octagon, which would surpass Anderson Silva for the longest winning streak in UFC history. Makhachev's one loss of his career came way back in October 2015, in just his second UFC appearance, when he was knocked out by Adriano Martins.
Machado Garry, 28, earned his first UFC title shot on the strength of back-to-back wins last year against top contender Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad. A win would make Machado Garry just the second Irish-born champion in UFC history alongside Conor McGregor.
