Everybody is going to have their share of revenge games, as so many players are on new teams. Paul George is one of them, as he will be returning to the city of Philadelphia as the Boston Celtics take on the Philadelphia 76ers.
Now this isn’t much of a redemption arc for George, as it is a chance to see if he still has what it takes to play at a high level. George played for the 76ers from 2024 to 2026.
During that time, George was effective when he was available, but that’s where it ends. His injury history over the last few years made his departure a necessary one. George averaged 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4 assists in those two years while appearing in 78 games.
George signed a four-year contract and was expected to be a player that helped propel the team to the playoffs. His injury history was extensive as he started his tenure on the shelf due to a hyperextended knee. He then continued to have knee issues throughout the 2024-2025 season.
In 2025 there was hope for him to return to his old form until more lower body injuries continued to mount. He was later suspended 25 games, which impacted his rhythm once he made his way back.
Now that he’s on the other side, there are going to be many who question which team got the short end of the stick in the deal. George being traded for Jaylen Brown seems like an obvious win for the 76ers, but it won’t be about the overall impact; it’s going to be about this one game.
If the Celtics come out on top, you’ll be sure to hear a ring of boos emanate from the crowd. Philadelphia is going to have to show that they didn’t make a mistake and get people excited for a repeat season. The starting lineup collectively can average at least 80 points. They’re going to need every bit of those 80 since the Celtics can shoot it out the game.
George will try to do everything he can to make the team regret tossing him aside, and it’s going to be Brown who will have to show why he was the man for the job.
Can Brown outperform George? Or will the savvy vet get the better of the young superstar? That answer will be revealed when the two teams clash November 10th.
