College football personality Josh Pate ranked Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown No. 9 in his SEC quarterback rankings from his Tuesday night show.

One of the biggest names on this year's Auburn football roster is transfer senior quarterback Byrum Brown. It is very easy to understand why. He is the starting quarterback, highest-rated portal transfer for the Tigers this offseason, and coming off a season where he finished No. 2 nationally in total touchdowns with 42. The hype around Brown has grown all offseason on the Plains, and the excitement to see his debut continues to build as the week one matchup against Baylor gets closer.

Tuesday night's Josh Pate's College Football Show went over the top-10 quarterbacks in the SEC according to Pate. He ranked Brown No. 9 on his list. His list went as Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Arch Manning (Texas), John Mateer (Oklahoma), Gunner Stockton (Georgia), Sam Leavitt (LSU), Keelon Russell/Austin Mack (Alabama), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), Marcel Reed (Texas A&M), Byrum Brown (Auburn) and Austin Simmons (Missouri).

The ranking of ninth might come as a surprise to some or fitting to others because when there is hype, there will also be questions. The main question that Brown has faced this offseason has been whether his game translates to a tougher conference in the SEC. Last season, South Florida did go into the Swamp and defeat Florida with a game-winning field goal, 18-16. Will he be able to do that week to week? We have to wait and see.

The other concern people have pointed to is the throwing motion that Brown possesses. It's not the prettiest of motions for sure, and the hitch could lead to sacks or broken-up passes, giving the defenses just that bit of extra time they need to react. Here is the thing: his game is more than that; he rushed for 1,000 yards last season. The threat of him running is what is going to open up passing lanes this season for the Tigers.

Overall, Brown should be able to perform in the SEC, and his motion shouldn't be a problem as some people think. For the uncertain, all will be answered in Atlanta less than a month from now, inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium against Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 5.
