Preseason top-25 rankings continue to drop ahead of the 2026 college football season. LSU football ranked No. 12 on the On3 preseason top-25 list, its highest mark among similar lists. The spot is generous given the purple and gold's lackluster 2025 finish.
The Tigers are No. 6 among SEC teams. Texas and Georgia rank third and fourth, respectively. Oklahoma (No. 8), Ole Miss (No. 9) and Texas A&M (No. 10) round out the SEC teams that occupy the top 10. LSU's first opponent of the year, Clemson, is unranked on On3's list. Reporter Andy Staples talked about the Tigers' standing ahead of head coach Lane Kiffin's first year at the helm.
"All eyes are on Lane Kiffin following his exit from Ole Miss. The Tigers expect national championships, and nothing short of a CFP berth in year one will be satisfying. Kiffin may have the roster to pull that off. QB Sam Leavitt helped Arizona State to a Big 12 title in 2024. OT Jordan Seaton is a former five-star recruit who was living up to that billing at Colorado. Just as it did last year, LSU faces high expectations to make the College Football Playoffs. It missed big last year as three straight losses against ranked teams during its conference slate derailed the hopes of playing meaningful postseason football.
