The preseason will be Cleveland’s chance to figure out who its starting quarterback for 2026 is going to be. The candidates to win the job are three-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson and second-year signal-caller Shedeur Sanders. Watson has already been named the team’s starting quarterback for its preseason opener on Saturday, but head coach Todd Monken said the quarterback competition remains open.

Last season, Sanders threw seven touchdowns but had 10 interceptions, completing just 56.6 percent of his passes and throwing for 1,400 yards in eight appearances, seven as a starter. Watson, meanwhile, last played in 2024 when he started seven games for the Browns, throwing five touchdowns to three interceptions, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 1,148 yards. Soon to be 31, it’ll be interesting to see how Watson looks in his return to the gridiron on Saturday against Chicago.
The Bears, on the other hand, are all set at starting quarterback, with former No. 1 pick Caleb Williams looking like a potential star. In 2025, Williams threw 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, throwing for 3,942 yards and completing 58.1 percent of his passes.
Williams even led Chicago to the divisional round of the playoffs after taking down the rival Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, 31-27. Williams threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns in the win, but he did have two costly interceptions, showing he still has work to do before he can be considered truly elite.
