An August preseason matchup might be a preview of what's to come in January.
\nThe Los Angeles Chargers and the Houston Texans are both AFC championship game hopefuls, and they meet in preseason Week 1 on Thursday night.
\nThe Chargers' most notable move maybe wasn't on the field, but on their sideline: the team hired former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel to help oversee the offense, something that they hope will pay off in a big way for Justin Herbert.
\nThe Texans are coming off a season which ended in the AFC divisional round, a lot of their success coming by way of their stop unit. Houston's defense is again expected to be formidable; the biggest question is how quarterback C.J. Stroud will bounce back after a down season.
\nStroud is expected to have his full complement of weapons this upcoming season, a pivotal one for the passer, both for the Texans' playoff hopes and for his wallet.
