A Reddit user built a scoring system that measures exactly how much overlap each NFL team’s schedule has with the hours when NFL RedZone is on
The idea, posted to r/NFLRedzone, is simple. If your team plays at 1 p.m. ET, you’re likely watching your team, not RedZone, so that game counts against you. The user, u/jdhoskins, scored every 1 p.m. game a 2, and every 4 p.m. game a 1. The 1 p.m. window is when RedZone has the most value, as there are often 6-8 games on during that window. If you’re playing during that window, when RedZone is bouncing around more frequently, you’re losing out more than in a 4 p.m. window, when there are usually 3-5 games going on.
Primetime games, international games, standalone holiday windows, and byes all scored a 0, since none of those actually overlap with the seven hours of no-longer-commercial-free football lives in. Add up a team’s score across the full 2026 schedule, and the lower the number, the fewer the Sundays that fanbase has to choose between watching their favorite team and watching RedZone. Long story short, the lower the score, the more likely, or free, you’d be able to watch RedZone because your personal fandom is not competing with RedZone during that stretch.
Below is a look at the results with the approval of the Reddit user.
Based on the 2026 NFL schedule, the Rams come out on top with a score of 10, with seven primetime games doing most of the heavy lifting. Right behind them are the Seahawks at 11, with the Chiefs, 49ers, and Broncos all sitting in the 13-14 range. The Browns, Jets, and Titans are tied for the league’s worst score of 30, and not far off are the Dolphins at 27, and the Ravens, Panthers, and Giants, all clustered together at 23.
The creator was upfront that this isn’t an exact science. This model assumes every fan watches their own team’s game live, treats every 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. game as equally distracting regardless of the matchup, and doesn’t account for anyone splitting their attention across a YouTube TV quadbox or a multi-screen setup, which, let’s be honest, plenty of RedZone people do.
The results are insightful but not shocking. Good teams and popular teams play in primetime, and crappy teams, as well as the smaller fanbases, typically get placed more regularly on Sunday afternoons. So if you’re a fan of a crummy team, beyond your team’s propensity for losing, they are also costing you extra hours that you could be watching RedZone. Life is not fair sometimes.
