Jake Rogers could be coming back to Comerica Park this weekend, but not as a member of the Detroit Tigers.
Per MassLive's Chris Cotillo, the Chicago White Sox have claimed Rogers off waivers on Friday, Aug. 14. That would mark the fourth team that has employed the 31-year-old catcher in 2026 after the Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox.
The Tigers traded Rogers to the Orioles for minor league reliever Zane Barnhart on July 30, but Rogers only played in three games for Baltimore before being traded to the Red Sox in the Adley Rutschman deal on Aug. 3. The Red Sox designated Rogers for assignment on Aug. 11 to make room for Rutschman on the roster after Rutschman was reinstated from the 10-day IL, with Rogers playing in only three game for the Red Sox before his departure.
The Tigers initially acquired Rogers in 2017 as part of the trade that sent Justin Verlander to the Houston Astros in exchange for three prospects. Though Rogers was not the highest-rated prospect the Tigers got back in the deal, he ended up having the biggest impact with the organization, playing in 362 games over six seasons with Detroit.
Detroit begins a three-game series with the White Sox at Comerica Park on Friday.
