The FedEx Cup playoffs are off to a hot start at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Scottie Scheffler stole the show on Friday, Aug. 14 by carding a score of 61, tying the course record, in the second round at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. His overall score of 11-under par will be hard to beat and, as the leader of the FedEx Cup standings, he's a shoo-in for the next round of the playoffs, the BMW Championship.

On the opposite end of the leaderboard, Robert MacIntyre scored an atrocious 12-over in the first round and then withdrew from the competition after completing his day.

Last year, Tommy Fleetwood won his first FedEx Cup and Scheffler took the victory the year prior.

After earning FedEx Cup points throughout the PGA Tour season, the top 70 golfers are facing off this weekend in the St. Jude Championship. That field is then narrowed to 50 based on points for the BMW Championship, which is held from Aug. 20-23. The number of competitors is cut down again to 30 for the third and final tournament, the TOUR Championship from Aug. 27-30. Unlike most PGA Tour tournaments, there is no 36-hole cut for each FedEx Cup event.

Another bonus of qualifying for the BMW Championship is that each golfer gets an automatic entry for all of next season's signature events.

Brian Harman and Max Homa are among the big-name golfers in danger of not qualifying for the BMW Championship. Harman is the first player on the outside of the projected top 50, but is sitting tied for fifth with a score of 6-under after two rounds at the St. Jude Championship. According to Golfweek, he only needs to finish in a two-way tie for eighth place to stay alive. For Homa, he is tied at 38th having carded an even score so far. He needs to step up his game a bit and finish tied for 25th if he wants to advance.

Here are the 20 golfers most in danger of missing the BMW Championship, as projected by the PGA Tour:

  • Brian Harman
  • Michael Brennan
  • Matt McCarty
  • Maverick McNealy
  • Pierceson Coody
  • Harris English
  • Max Homa
  • Sam Stevens
  • Harry Hall
  • Michael Kim
  • Corey Conners
  • Daniel Berger
  • Nick Taylor
  • Patrick Rodgers
  • Shane Lowry
  • Jordan Smith
  • Aldrich Potgieter
  • Jackson Koivun
  • Ricky Castillo
  • Matti Schmid
