The Milwaukee Brewers secured the season series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but not even winning three out of four games at Dodger Stadium was good enough to leapfrog the back-to-back World Series Champions in MLB.com's power rankings. For whatever reason, Will Leitch has the Dodgers still as the No. 1 team despite the Brewers having the best record in all of baseball. MLB.com's power rankings certainly don't mean everything, but it was puzzling to not only see this ranking, but it was even more puzzling when Leitch gave his explanation, or lack thereof. At the end of the day, the Brewers went to Los Angeles and proved just how good they truly are, but nothing is going to matter until October, a month where the Dodgers have historically had the Brewers number. Why aren't the Brewers ranked No. 1? "Please, please, Brewers fans: We know Milwaukee has the best record in baseball (by two games, actually), and we understand that you are probably mad right now that your team is No. 2 in these Power Rankings despite just winning three out of four at Dodger Stadium," Leitch wrote. He added, "Fortunately, home-field advantage is not determined by the MLB.com Power Rankings (for now!), it’s determined by the best record. Which the Brewers have … as well as the tiebreaker with a season series win over the Dodgers, if it happens to come to that." So after all of that, there was absolutely no explanation given as to why the Dodgers are ranked one spot lower than the Dodgers. Leitch's Dodgers section included nothing but a paragraph on how Kyle Tucker has been struggling. While yes, he has been struggling at home all year, the Brewers’ pitching staff was yet another reason why he struggled as much as he did. For whatever reason, Milwaukee wasn't given any credit for what they just did, and that says a lot about how Leitch and the rest of the league feel about this small-market team. Manager Pat Murphy always talks about how his guys are the underdogs, and he has a bunch of "no-name" players on his team. Fans love to complain about the way he talks about these Brewers, but people like Leitch are exactly why he says what he says. After dropping two of three at American Family Field earlier in the year, Milwaukee, fresh off being swept in San Diego, came to LA and won three out of four against the Dodgers, yet that still wasn't enough to get them the respect they deserve.
