Arizona triathlon’s quest to win a third straight national championship begins later this month.

Wes Johnson’s program will open the season competing at the Duquesne Cup in Beaver Falls, Penn., one of three regular season meets.

Arizona will compete in the Desert’s Edge Collegiate Cup in Loma, Colo. on Sept. 27 before hosting the Cactus Collegiate Cup in Tucson on Oct. 10. This is the second year in a row Arizona will host a competition.

Women’s tennis

Arizona women’s tennis head coach Ryan Stotland has named Lily Woods as an assistant coach.

Woods arrives at Arizona from Mercer, where she served as an assistant coach this past season. Prior to coaching, Woods was a standout player at Wofford, twice earning second-team All-Southern Conference honors in both singles and doubles.

“Lily is a rising star in the coaching world,” Stotland said in a statement. “She is a person who was born to coach. Everyone around her gets better, and she is willing to go the extra mile. We know she is going to add a lot to our team and university. We are lucky to have her and cannot wait for her to get started.”

Men’s Golf

Arizona’s Taishi Moto and Tianyi Xiong qualified for this week’s U.S. Amateur Golf Championship in Ardmore, Penn. Both players advanced out of stroke play to the match play portion.

In the first round of match play, Moto took down the No. 1 seed Joshua Ryan of Liberty in 19 strokes. Moto’s run ended Thursday in the round of 32, as he fell to Gaven Lane of Oklahoma State.
