The WNBA have been forced into another statement following a social media incident involving Sophie Cunningham.
Sophie Cunningham has dominated headlines both on and off the court of late.
The Indiana Fever guard went viral for her controversial comments on transgender athletes, arguing it was ‘common sense’ to protect young girls from competing against ‘biological men’.
Following on from this, DiJonai Carrington was ejected after striking Sophie Cunningham in the head during the Sky vs Fever clash, which sparked her ‘white privilege’ tweet.
And now there’s even more controversy, as it came out that Sophie Cunningham’s name has been banned from the WNBA subreddit.
WNBA make statement on Sophie Cunningham
A moderator on the r/WNBA subreddit confirmed that content using Sophie Cunningham’s name is being filtered out because it ‘tends to bring out trolls and people who aren’t fans of the W.’
But it didn’t stop there, as the WNBA have now released a statement themselves.
“The WNBA does not moderate or have any affiliation with the r/WNBA subreddit.”
The WNBA is currently caught in a massive media storm, making what seems to be statements every week given all that is going on right now.
Royce White and Enes Kanter have done their best to try and disrupt officials, still pushing to enter the WNBA draft, as they try and exploit the current rules around transgender athletes.
