Caitlin Clark got the better of Paige Bueckers in the Indiana Fever’s 98-87 win over the Dallas Wings on Friday. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year finished with 29 points, 10 assists, and 3 rebounds, while Bueckers posted 29 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The matchup lived up to the hype, with both former No. 1 picks delivering impressive performances. Their latest showdown also sparked a call for the WNBA to turn the Clark-Bueckers rivalry into one of the league’s biggest attractions.

Clark and Bueckers have been compared since their college days, and that connection has only grown since they reached the WNBA. Clark took the league by storm in 2024 before the Dallas star followed in her footsteps by winning Rookie of the Year in 2025.
The WNBA appeared eager to capitalize on the rivalry this season, opening the 2026 campaign with a Fever-Wings matchup. Friday’s meeting offered another reminder of why the league has plenty to gain by putting the two young stars at the center of its marketing push.
“Caitlin Clark vs. Paige Bueckers has EVERYTHING the WNBA should be pushing as its next great rivalry. Two generational stars. Two massive fanbases. Two completely different games. This has the potential to be the WNBA’s version of LeBron vs. Kobe. Build it up,” Mark Gunnels wrote.

Clark and Bueckers took over at different points, producing one of the most entertaining individual battles of the season. In the third quarter, Clark scored 17 points and added 2 assists, while Bueckers responded with 13 points, 1 assist, and 2 steals.
Clark also had to overcome a scary moment late in the first half when she appeared to injure her ankle and briefly left the floor. She returned after halftime and quickly looked like herself again, helping Indiana pull away.
Bueckers kept Dallas within striking distance, but Indiana’s 35-21 fourth quarter ultimately settled the contest.
The two will not have to wait long for another chapter, with the Fever and Wings scheduled to meet again next week.
Indiana improved to 22-12 with the win, while Dallas fell to 20-15.
With both teams in the playoff picture, the stakes should only rise from here. If the WNBA wants a rivalry that can capture even casual fans, spark debate, and define its next generation, Clark-Bueckers is already making a compelling case.
