The Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel controversy has generated months of commentary from reporters, analysts, players and podcasters. Tony Farmer is now wondering why one prominent NFL reporter has seemingly stayed out of it.

Farmer, host of the “Last Men Standing” podcast, put NFL Network reporter Jane Slater on the spot Monday, questioning why she has not publicly addressed a story involving someone she has previously described in affectionate terms.

Tony Farmer Questions Jane Slater’s Silence on Russini-Vrabel Saga

“Still not a single word from Jane Slater about Mike Vrabel or Dianna Russini,” Farmerwrote on X. “I wonder why she is so quiet about such a big story.”

Farmer has raised the Slater angle before. In May, hehighlighted Slater previously referring to Russini as her “best girl,” then questioned whether their friendship could help explain why Slater had not publicly scrutinized the controversy.

That remains Farmer’s theory, not an established explanation for Slater’s silence. Friendship alone does not prove that Slater is intentionally avoiding the subject, and reporters are not obligated to publicly comment on every controversy involving another journalist.

Still, Farmer has spent much of the offseason arguing that theRussini controversy has received too little scrutiny from prominent NFL media figures and organizations. Slater has now become his latest example.

Slater joined NFL Network in 2016 and appears across programs including “The Insiders” and “NFL GameDay Morning.” Her work frequently centers on the Dallas Cowboys and reporting from around the league.

Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel Questions Continue

The controversy began publicly in April after Page Six published photographs showing Russini and New England Patriots head coach Vrabel holding hands and embracing at a resort in Sedona, Arizona.

Both pushed back against the implications surrounding the photographs. Vrabel called the interaction “completely innocent,” while Russini said the images lacked essential context and omitted other people who were present.

The fallout did not end there. The Athletic opened an internal investigation into Russini’s relationship with Vrabel and her NFL reporting. Russini resigned in April, saying she stood behind her journalism and rejected the narrative surrounding the episode.

The NFL, meanwhile, decided not to formally review Vrabel’s behavior under its Personal Conduct Policy.

More questions have surfaced since then. Farmer has repeatedly pushed for information about Russini’s reporting, her AP awards ballot and the timeline of her relationship with Vrabel.

Aaron Rodgers also brought the subject back into the national conversation earlier this month by criticizing the limited attention it received on ESPN.

Now Farmer is directing some of that scrutiny toward Slater.

There is no evidence that Slater’s lack of public commentary means she knows anything more about the situation. Farmer’s question is simpler: With the controversy still producing headlines four months later, why has someone he views as close to Russini apparently chosen not to join the conversation?
