The late free agency swing brings the 37-year-old edge defender’s career full circle. Raised in DeSoto, Texas, and a former standout at Texas A&M, Miller joins Dallas after spending the 2025 season with NFC East rival Washington.
For Miller, signing with Dallas fulfills a long-standing desire to play in his backyard, just 30 minutes away from AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Before Denver selected him No. 2 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, Miller was a standout at Texas A&M, earning consensus All-American honors and winning the Butkus Award.

Cowboys reporter RJ Ochoa summed up his reaction simply: “OMG.”

Cowboys Still Looking for Secondary Help
The Cowboys aren’t done looking for defensive upgrades. Along with Miller, Dallas is also exploring free-agent options at cornerback.
Adoree Jackson is one name to watch, particularly because of his previous connection with defensive coordinator Christian Parker in Philadelphia. However, Jackson has interest from several other teams, so Dallas may have competition if it decides to pursue the veteran corner.
Although Miller is entering his late 30s, he showed during his time in Washington last season that he can still make an impact as a situational pass rusher. Miller logged 9.0 sacks on just 420 defensive snaps, his highest single-season sack total since 2021. The Cowboys’ leader last year, Jadeveon Clowney, had 8.5.
Miller enters the season as the NFL’s active career sack leader with 138.5 sacks. His next sack will move him past DeMarcus Ware and give him sole possession of ninth place on the NFL’s official all-time sack list.
By signing Von Miller, Dallas adds elite pass-rush pedigree and championship leadership to its front seven. Operating in a fresh rotation in his home state, Miller provides the Cowboys with a high-impact edge presence while setting the stage for a memorable homecoming chapter to end his career.
