Zaheer Khan and Michael Vaughan suggested a few names of players who could replace Cameron Green in the Kolkata Knight Riders' side for the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, as the Aussie all-rounder has been asked not to bowl at the moment by Cricket Australia.
Former India speedster Zaheer said that if Green isn't allowed to bowl, the three-time champions can opt to bench him and play Rachin Ravindra to add more balance to the side. The Kiwi all-rounder didn't have a great campaign with the bat in the T20 World Cup, but did contribute with the ball by picking up crucial wickets.
"Cricket Australia has control over Cameron Green, and if they've decided he's not going to bowl, then it's up to the franchise on how to use him. Rahane made sure he let everyone know that I want him to bowl. If he doesn't bowl, his being in the 11 will solely be on the balance of the team. 10. So even if they bought him for the highest of the bucks, you still have to ask him to sit on the bench. Maybe Rachin Ravindra is the option they'll go for instead to contribute with the bat and ball," Zaheer said on Cricbuzz while talking about Green's role and the possibility of KKR replacing him.
You could argue that Seifert could replace Cameron Green if he's just playing as a batter: Michael Vaughan
Former England captain Michael Vaughan mentioned that Tim Seifert could be an option in place of Green. However, the cricketer-turned-expert added that this change might not be made just after one game.
"It helps their balance if he (Green) bowls. I'll be amazed and surprised if he bowls in this game. You could argue that Seifert could replace Cameron Green if he's just playing as a batter. But I can't see that change after one game. Plus Green looked good with the bat at the Wankhede," said Vaughan (via the aforementioned source).
"They weren't far off against MI. They didn't defend the 220 because the bowlers came up against a juggernaut in Rohit Sharma. Chakaravarthy is a bit of a worry. He had an iffy World Cup. He went for plenty in the first game, so he needs to find his line and length," he added.
KKR lost their opening game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. On the other hand, SRH are coming into this clash on the back of a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
