Manchester United's Youri Tielemans has apologized to Aston Villa fans for a comment he made about his former club -Credit:Ash Donelon, Manchester United via Getty Images Manchester United midfielder Youri Tielemans has been compelled to issue an apology following his remarks after departing Aston Villa. The summer signing suggested that the Red Devils were above his previous club, which he assisted in securing European silverware with their UEFA Europa League victory in May. The Red Devils secured the 29-year-old during the summer by activating the £35 million ($46.8 million) release clause in his contract. Tielemans concluded his three-year tenure in the West Midlands and joined as part of the reinforcements in Michael Carrick's midfield, a problematic area at Old Trafford in recent seasons. Nevertheless, Tielemans provoked frustration with his statements in his first comprehensive interview with journalists as the finale to United's preseason preparations approaches, as per The Mirror.

"I must however admit my mistake and apologise for my choice of words, (I) will be more careful in the future. Wishing the club the best in the future. Youri." Segments of the Villa Park fanbase appear to have taken offense with the statements made by the Belgium captain. Tielemans said: "I am very thankful to Aston Villa. I owe them the world. "It is a great club, we did amazing things, and they have put me back to my best level. But there are clubs above Villa, and Manchester United is one of them. "It is a great achievement for any footballer to end up here. It means you have done well in your career. But it does not end there. I want to be successful." United's final preseason fixture comes against AC Milan, now managed by Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed by the Red Devils in January. The club has been active in the transfer market, bringing in Andrey Santos to strengthen their midfield options, while efforts continue to reinforce other areas of the squad. This represents a crucial campaign for Carrick and his team as they make their return to the Champions League after securing third place last season. Questions remain about whether they can challenge across multiple competitions, though on the field, the priority will be easing the workload on Bruno Fernandes. The United captain has been pivotal for the club throughout a challenging period in its history. Tielemans has already spoken positively about his partnership with the Portuguese midfielder. He said: "It's really natural. He is a guy that can find space easily. I just try and find him so that he can move forward."
