Zac Taylor appears to send message about Joe Burrow sacks

Like fans, Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor wasn’t thrilled to see some of the hits star quarterback Joe Burrow took during Thursday’s preseason opener against the Detroit Lions.  Those onlookers who tuned in to see the starters play might’ve had a bit of deja vu. A sack on third down ended the Bengals’ opening drive, then a big hit on third down of the second drive looked problematic, to say the least.  After the game, Taylor wasn’t pleased.  “It’s never fun. That’s not what we ever want to happen.” Taylor said. "We'll continue to improve." The cause for concerns on the sacks came out of under-center looks, which the Bengals ran the majority of the time while Burrow was out there.  “We're just trying to function (with) our offense and be efficient," Taylor said. "Obviously, we want to come away with more than three points in the two drives he was in, but there's going to be some positive things and some things we'll work to correct." And sure, these comments might be directed at the offensive line. Orlando Brown Jr. got beaten badly on the left side on one of the sacks.  But it’s also perhaps directed at Burrow.  Uncomfortable discussion or not, Burrow has struggled under center. The big sack near the end of his night was on a lengthy drop and the ball needed to come out. So there’s a chance Taylor’s comments apply to offensive line and quarterback alike.  Either way, the Bengals can’t go into the regular season with the offense looking like it did on Thursday night.
